Somewhere...

...over the rainbow!

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

That was the end to my first day here at the sanctuary. A beautiful rainbow.

It was such a perfect day.

The weather was breezy, but mostly sunny. I helped weed a bit of he garden and rescue some leeks from getting choked out by them.

I learned to hang clothes out on a line and I got to meet the baby seal that they are nursing back to health. It's pretty much the most adorable little creature I've ever seen.

I was so exhausted by the end of the day though. Perhaps the rain that had set in late in the evening just made me want to get under the covers.

In Scotland, as in the rest of the UK, tea is a HUGE thing. Tea in the morning, tea in the afternoon and tea after dinner. They always ask me if I want "a cuppa" which I think is so charming. I am loving it. The tea just tastes better here. It reminds me of eating pineapple in Hawaii. It just feels more natural in its original setting.

Everything here is so cozy. At night time I am given a warm water bottle in a knitted wool cover to stick under my sheets to keep warm. And it stays warm all night. It's quite lovely, as they say here.

This sanctuary and home seems to be a bustling center of the community. People pop in and out all the time. Doors aren't really locked here, people just walk right into for a visit and a cuppa because everybody knows everybody else. It's a sense of community like I have never witnessed or experienced before.
